Bangkok Holiday Trip (June 2017) - Day 2 of 6

***The following is the account of the first-person-view from Edwin Ang.***

Woke up at 7am just to type yesterday's entry. I only had 4 hours of sleep but surprisingly, I was wide awake at 7am. Took me 1 hour to finish typing everything. Then I tried going back to sleep but to no avail. So I just gamed until John woke up at 9am.

Breakfast at Budacco
Then we headed down for breakfast while the girls took their own sweet time to put makeup. Breakfast was provided by the hotel, and it was buffet style. So me and John just spammed. The girls soon arrived and ate too. We had an extremely awesome breakfast and I'm very satisfied with this hotel.

We went back to our rooms to settle payment. Yesterday we paid for each other's expenses on different occasions so we had to sort out the money issues. Then we also did a little planning as to what we are gonna do for today. Planning failed of course. It was too late to visit the floating market as everything would be sold out. The 2 most famous floating markets are about an hour's ride out so we scrapped that plan. The palace and temples required specific dress codes so we scrapped that plan too.

With nowhere to go, we settled for the zoo. Yes, we are going to the zoo today. We reached Ratchaprarop BTS station only to find out that we don't know how to buy the tickets. We scrapped the plan of taking train there. Of course, I suggested walking and they agreed. On the map the walk seems short, but yeah, we did not know shit.

We saw that there were railway tracks parallel to the BTS tracks on top so we walked on the railway tracks, literally. It was a cool experience being able to walk on real tracks and hear real trains honk at us. We walked for about half an hour and realized we are nowhere near the zoo. We still persisted because of the fact that we are already walking. We kept following the railway tracks until there was this giant crossing that we can't cross. So we detoured and left the railway tracks.

We walked beside this royal palace and apparently, the former king of Thailand lived there. It was a crazy stretch of road and it takes us at least 15 minutes to clear the breadth of the palace. Upon seeing that there was another crazy stretch ahead, we gave up and hopped onto a Tuk Tuk for the remaining journey. That costed us 80 baht.

We reached the zoo called Dusit Zoo, Bangkok at 1pm and the entrance fee was 150 baht. We visited the monkeys and promptly headed to find food. We found this food court and decided to have lunch there. They are using a coupon system so we had to spend all the coupons or we lose our money. I ate some kind of noodles and drank 2 bottles of tea.

We then went around visiting some other animals and realised that the zoo is practically dead. All the animals are either asleep or missing. Well, not surprising for a zoo in the middle of a bustling city. We tried to hop onto a tram and was asked to buy tickets first. Screw that. We are not gonna pay for a dumb and slow ride. Then we tried to catch the dolphin show and again we were asked to buy tickets. Wow. What a lousy zoo. The entrance was literally just for the entrance. Gosh will you feel my rage.

We left the zoo and hopped onto another Tuk Tuk which brought us back to the main city. 180 baht gone. We visited Siam Paragon first for Yutong to buy her Adidas cap. Her cap flew off on one of the Tuk Tuk rides. Then we went opposite to the MBK shopping mall again for Yutong to get her stuff. Then we walked back to our hotel.

Gordon Ramsey would have been so pissed
Upon reaching our room, we were so tired that we just wanted to stone and nua. Unfortunately our stomachs were empty so we had to force ourselves out of the room. We walked down the food street and ended up in one of another hotel's restaurant. I ordered medium rare steak while the others ordered their own. It costed me 200 baht. And the meat sucks. Big time. It was tough to eat but I managed to wipe the plate clean.

We settled payment and planned for a little more before deciding to go for a massage. We went to this legit establishment along the main road and tried the 1 hour Thai massage. It was awesome. Four of us lie on beds that were side by side, separated by only a curtain. That itself proved that this massage palour is clean. The massage was shiok. 250 baht well spent.

It was 10pm when we finished and we rushed to Central World shopping mall's supermarket only to find it closed. It closes at 10pm. How sad, no Chang beer for tonight. Then when we were walking out, we saw street stalls selling Chang beer for 60 baht each. Of course we got one each and made our way back to the hotel.

It was a smooth day today and I am happy about it. This is the holiday life I expected! A night with Chang beer is a good night in Bangkok!
