***This post is a recount of the trip after I returned to Singapore from the trip.***
Boxing Day!!! Yet another holiday that the Japanese don't celebrate. Oh well. Today got feels for yet another hike so I chose this lesser known mountain called Mount Ikoma. I took train early morning to this station called, well, Ikoma. Hahahaha.
I dived right into the streets and headed straight for the mountain. There was this long ass flight of stairs that took me almost half an hour to finish climbing. But the views are insane! I accidentally ventured onto the wrong path into a random temple and only realised after an hour. GG.
The temple view was nice, but that's not my goal today. Finally saw the ropeway and knew I'm on the correct route. The dirt path up was steep, but not the steepest this trip. I rested a lot because I was sweating like mad.
There was this super huge amusement park at the peak, but is obviously not open. Anyone can just waltz into the place as I did. After obtaining a hot drink from the vending machines, I explored the place a little then headed on to nowhere.
Honestly, after the amusement park, I have no idea where I am headed. Chanced upon this amazing view and took some photos of myself there.
Then I continued on until I reached this super abandoned village. That's when things started to get fun, and scary.
I explored some abandoned houses after I found my way in either through broken doors or climbing over the fences. Nothing too scary, just old stuff lying around everywhere. Truly mesmerising.
There was this ryokan that I entered where everything inside is not from this decade. Not sure how long these houses have stayed abandoned but I really like this kind of adventure.
In one of the houses, there was this light that appeared to be turned on by something. And when I left, it turned off. I didn't touch anything that could trigger the light. Besides, why is there electricity to an abandoned village??? Ghostly for sure.
Further down the mountains, there are just tons and tons of abandoned houses. Most of them are locked though, so that's a bummer.
Eventually reached areas that are inhabited and my exploration came to an end. You can check it out fully on my YouTube video. I proceeded to walk to the nearest train station called Ishikiri and headed back to Osaka.
I knew exactly what I wanted for dinner, the same thing as the previous night. It is that good. Yet another night ended with me walking around aimlessly at Dotonburi.
Here's a video of some tourists looking at me like I am a tourist attraction!
