***This post is a recount of the trip after I returned to Singapore from the trip.***
Christmas Day 2025!! Yet another Christmas spent overseas. Starting to really like this annual tradition because Christmas in Singapore is way too boring. Anyway, half of Japan seems to celebrate Christmas while the other half just enjoys the free off day.
It was a rather cooling Christmas morning as I headed over to a place that I keep seeing on my Instagram reels: The Takedao railway tunnel trail. I figured no better way to spend the holiday than hiking on a flat terrain.
The train abruptly stopped one station prior to my intended stop to change driver and the process seemed to take forever. So I just alighted at Takarazuka and walked towards the trail by foot. The walk was freezing for some random reason.
I guess the countryside does feel much colder compared to the city. Played Pokemon Go as I walked. After about half an hour or so, I reached the tunnels. There were a total of 5 tunnels I needed to traverse before I reach the other side.
The trail is located beside a very scenic river. This particular trail reminds me of New Zealand so so much. In the whole of Japan, I only found this one trail to have the same level of awesomeness as the trails in New Zealand.
The tunnels were crazy dark though. I think it was tunnel number 2 that was the longest one. A dark few minutes of walking in complete darkness is next level. I was so afraid to look at the walls or the ceiling in fear that someone might be staring back at me.
After tunnel number 3, I came across this wonderful truss bridge. This truss bridge is the only thing between tunnel 3 and tunnel 4. Took a whole lot of photos there and also emptied my bladder in the river because there was not a single toilet in this entire route.
Thereafter, I continued on to the town at the other side. This walk was a nice walk and I would recommend more people to try this in the future!
The town at the other side was, dead. Like no kidding right. Who would open for business on Christmas Day? There goes my only chance of filling my stomach. I begrudgingly walked to the nearest train station called Takedao.
It is a very special station. Half of the station is inside the tunnel. And the other half is suspended over a river. Crazy.
Took train back to main Osaka station and just loitered around. Very sick place!
Ate at this noodle shop that has no chairs. So apparently it's just for people to eat and go. And the food is actually pretty good even though it's cheap!
I continued on to shopping and actually found the pedal I was looking for at a 10% discount because of the holidays. I knew I didn't rush to buy for no reason. Purchased it instantly the moment I saw the price.
Ended the day at Dotonburi again. Really nothing to do at this point in time. Aimlessly walking around seems like a good way to spend Christmas. Haha.
Chanced upon this super big meal at a random corner of the street and wow, this is the best meal I have eaten in this trip thus far. Got noodle, got beer, got rice, got gyoza, all for $20. Crazy!
