***This post is a recount of the trip after I returned to Singapore from the trip.***
Today was a super interesting day split into 3 parts. I knew I had to visit the Inari temple for the famous thousand Tori gates. And I knew I had to go early to avoid the crowd. So I woke up as early as I could at 6am while the skies are still dark and the temperature is still below zero.
After I alighted, I ran like a madman up the stairs. I apparently took the wrong turn and ended up at some graveyard. I later learnt that the path I took was the one behind the famous attraction. It's a longer but more scenic route.
Alas I reached, took some photos, and left. Too crowded for me at around 9am.
I walked to the nearest 7-eleven to buy some hot food since I was feeling pretty hungry already. This 7-eleven snacking really next level.
For part 2 of my day, I visited the Kyoto railway museum. It is like a must-go place for me so I headed there right away. Paid the entrance fee and proceeded to spend a few hours inside the museum.
Though I must say, it was probably the children's holiday and there were tons of kids running around. Grrr I like kids but I also hate them running around. Such a contrast from the museums of Australia and New Zealand.
Took a photo with an actual-sized JR500 Shinkansen. Best picture of my trip so far. The rest of the museum was pretty standard railway stuff. Though I must say, most of the exhibits are in Japanese and I couldn't read a single word.
Other than the insane amount of railway stuff, this museum is pretty much at the bottom of my list. Like there are tons of kids running and screaming, while English words are a minimum. I learnt nothing from this museum, sadly.
There was this outdoor area where I got to take more pictures, which was nice. But then again, not nice cause solo trip. Had to ask so many random strangers to help me take photos of myself.
After chilling outside for a bit, I went back in to take more shots with the trains before I leave the place. Bought one toy to commemorate my visit here. Never ever coming back to a museum that I cannot understand any word.
I headed back to main Kyoto station for the last part of my day. Walked around, took some photos and then went looking for dinner. I knew I had to eat at Nakau once again. So I went to the branch opposite the Kyoto Shinkansen station.
It was today that I chanced upon the chilli oil fried chicken bowl and was hooked. This rice bowl became my staple from this point onwards for each visit to Nakau. Crazy good. Then I went back to Kyoto station. Visited this super long escalator building right on top of Kyoto station.
Amazing views. Especially at the helipad. After walking around the toys section and more window shopping, I was hungry again. So I went to look for some wagyu beef for real. I got rejected by a lot of restaurants due to full capacity.
I finally found one for a decent price but the waiter kinda looked down on me until he saw the stacks of notes in my wallet. Other than his stupid behaviour, the food was actually crazy nice. I'll definitely be back with my friends in the future for this.
What a great day in Kyoto!
